As a global technology company, collaboration and agility across teams and time-zones is all part of the way we work. But the IRESS Global Hackathon is a special event that gives our people the freedom to think differently, try new things and apply their creative thinking to solve problems that deliver better outcomes for our clients and our people.
What makes our hackathon so good is that we invite all our people to take part, after all, why should developers and engineers have all the fun? It’s one of the reasons why last year’s hackathon was so successful, with a record-breaking number of people taking part and almost 350 ideas being submitted and taken forward by more than 160 teams.
The theme for this year’s hackathon is ‘client experience’ and already we’re seeing lots of great discussions and ideas happening and teams being assembled ready to take on the challenge.
Once the klaxton starts on Thursday 10 May signalling the start of the hackathon, the teams will build out and implement their ideas as far as they can in 24 hours before presenting it in a regional pitch to find one overall global winner.
Last year the winning hackathon idea, iAssist, was shipped in XPLAN 2.23 and is making a difference to our clients by enabling our support teams to help XPLAN users with their issues remotely as if they were standing next to the user.
Commenting on this year’s Global Hackathon our CTO, Andrew Todd, who has been involved in numerous hackathons, innovation days and codefests said:
“The IRESS Global Hackathon is on a different scale. Last year’s event was our biggest yet and I couldn’t have been more impressed and energised by what I saw. It was an awesome display of teamwork, innovation and creativity. This year’s Global Hackathon has the potential to be even bigger and better and I can’t wait to see what great ideas and ultimately what great innovative outcomes we can generate.”
So, our CTO has thrown down the gauntlet to make the 2018 IRESS Global Hackathon the best yet. Follow all the action as it happens on Twitter and Instagram #iresshackathon18
